History - Indonesian Embassy in Brief



The Embassy of Republic of Indonesia, located at 600-602 Petchburi Road, Bangkok, once belonged to His Highness Prince Chumphot Paribatra of Nagor Svarga, a grandson of the Great King Chulalongkorn or Rama V.

His father, the late Celestial Prince Krommaphra Nakorn Sawan Vorapinit, for political reason had to leave Thailand in 1932.

He choose Indonesia to be his place of exile and settled down in Bandung, now the capital city of West Java province. He lived there for 16 years.

For Paribatras, Indonesia, especially Bandung, got a special place in their hearts. Their pleasant memories to the country and its people shown when the Indonesia Charge d'Affaires, His Royal Highness Prince Bintoro, the Grandfather of the late Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX of Yogyakarta tried to locate a new site for the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok.

Without any hesitation, His Royal Highness Prince Chumbhot of Nagor Svarga offered his residence to be the new Indonesian Embassy.

For your information, the Indonesian Embassy since its establishment in 1947 was located at Phya Pipat Lane, Silom Road, Bangkok.

The present site, with an area of 22,274 square meters, was purchased in February 1952.

The Embassy building was originally built in L-shape by Ambassador Mas Isman in October 1962. Renovation and additions started in 1967. Since then, several ambassadors gave their contributions to the extension and renovation of the existing buildings.
