The regional development of Bali Province is oriented on each priority sector to increase the competitiveness in global market. Bali is a small island with limited of human and natural resourses but it has various superior cultures.
Province of Bali is one main tourism destination because it has a unique culture and lifestyle value system, an exotic natural view, friendly-people, social and lifestyle which are arranged by tradition, architecture, art and spiritual. Tourists from overseas in 2000 reached the highest number of 1,412,839 people, and then it declined to 1,353,717 people in 2001 and 1,285,892 people in 2002.
Beside, geographically Bali is a strategic island because it connects islands in Nusa Tenggara and other islands in Eastern part of Indonesia and Java, and between Asia and Australia using all of moda of transportation.
As a tourism destination in Indonesia, the regional government has created a conducive business climate through investment development done by public and business people in widening business opportunities and mutual benefit business partners.
It has proven by the increased of export in various commodities from Bali in 2002 became US$ 460,497,567 increased 20% compared with the figure in 2001 that amounted US$ 383,613,721.
This province is located between 114°25'53" South Longitudinal and 115°42'40" East Longitude 08°03'40" and 08°50'48" South Longitudinal. The area is 5,632.86 km2.
Administratively the government is divided into nine regencies/cities consisting of 8 Regencies and 1 City namely Regency of Buleleng, Regency of Jembrana, Regency of Tabanan, Regency of Badung, Regency of Gianyar, Regency of Klungkung, Regency of Bangli, Regency of Karang Asem and City of Denpasar.
The rainfall occurs between 1,050-2,000 mm yearly. The average temperature is between 28°C and 30°C.
GROSS REGIONAL DOMESTIC PRODUCTS
In 2002, GDRP in Province of Bali amounted Rp. 8,021,668 million, increased 3.39% compared with the figure in 2002. The highest contribution accounted for trade, hotel and restaurant sector (30.48%), agriculture sector (19.10%) and services (14.88%).
ECONOMIC GROWTH
GRDP growth in Province of Bali in 2002 amounted 3.14% and in 2001 amounted 3.39%.
INCOME PER CAPITA
Income per capita in Province of Bali in 2002 amounted Rp. 2,492,313.
EXPORT-IMPORT
Total export value in 2002 amounted US$ 171,569 million. The highest are product, textile/garment and handicraft. Meanwhile total import value amounted US$ 24,704 million with commodities like raw material, consumption material and stock.
MINIMUM WAGE RATES
Regional minimum wage rate in 2003 amounted Rp. 410,000 monthly.
AGRICULTURE
The area of food crops in 2002 amounted 240,370 ha, consisting of 34,319 ha corn, 10,633 ha sweet potato, 13,624 ha nuts, 7,546 ha soybean and 148,025 ha paddy.
PLANTATION
Recently, area of horticulture garden is 245,502 ha with main commodity productions in 2002 were 36,000 tons manggoes, 30,366 tons rambutans, 45,350 tons oranges, 124,254 tons bananas, 32,667 tons Zalaccas.
Meanwhile area of food crops plantation reached 161,684 ha with main production of coffee, clove, cacao, cashew nuts and coconut.
FISHERIES
Sea fish production in 2002 amounted 193,535 tons, while freshwater fish was only 2,718 tons.
ANIMAL HUSBANDRY
The developed animal husbandry were cow, buffalo, horse, goat/deer and pig.
FORESTRY
Forest area is 130,686 ha consisting of 1,907 ha permanent forest, 6,719 ha limited production forest. Main forest products are teak wood log, rimba wood log, and cendana wood.
