^ Brief Information

Lampung, which has capital of the province, Bandar Lampung, is also known as Bumi Ruwa Jurai. The province that has quite differsified natural resources and culture since prehistoric ages is bordered by Java Sea on the east, Sunda strait on the south, Indonesia Ocean on the west and South Sumatera and Bengkulu provinces on the north.

The province is strategic that makes it the gate of Sumatera and a tangible hub of Java and Sumatera including the movement of population. Therefore the province becomes so pluralism and is called as the Miniature of Indonesia. Besides, Lampung province has potential resources such as agriculture, plantation, fishery, mining and mineral, forestry, and other geographic landmarks like conservation forests, volcanoes etc.

Coastal areas with white sand and clean beaches highlight the potential of tourism objects and activities. The coastal areas become the center of fishermen and private business in fishery, hatchery and other marine products. In addition to Bakauheni, the bridging seaport, Lampung has Panjang seaport that is one of the famous seaports that serve many local commodities such as coffee, exported outside the province. The ports play important role in addition to the Raden Inten II airport, which serves passengers transportation.

Considering the Lampung condition that becomes more interesting and promising if it managed sustainable and sinergically, the business environment will provide many investment opportunities in all sectors, which in turn, generating economic advantages for Lampung's prosperity.

 

^ Geography

Total area of Lampung province is 3,528,835 sq.km., situated on the eastern and western part, between 103°40-105°50 east longitude and 6°45 - 3°45 South Latitude.

The government administration is set into 10 regencies/administrative cities, namely West Lampung, East Lampung, South Lampung, Central Lampung, North Lampung, Tanggamus, Lampung Way Kanan, Tulang Bawang, Bandar Lampung and Metro City.

The largest regency is Tulang Bawang (777,084 sq.km) and the smallest is Metro city (6,179 sq.km).

The average temperature varies 31.4 -33.0 C, while the night temperature ranges between 21.5 -23.2 C. The highest rainfall occurs on November reached 325.3 mm and the lowest occurs on June 53.2 mm.

^ Economy

GROSS REGIONAL DOMESTIC PRODUCTS

The 2001 economic growth of Lampung reached 3.50%, while the GDRP value by constant price in 2001 was Rp 7,512,859 million and by current price was Rp. 25,028,241 million. Several economic sectors experienced substantial growth such as mining and excavation growth was 54.73%, electricity/gas/clean water was 14.61%, and services 9.18%. Meanwhile, the several sectoral contributions to its economic growth are in proportion as sectoral growth experiences. Agriculture sector accounted for
35,88% to the economic growth, trade/hotel/ restaurant accounted for 15.60% and Manufacturing accounted for 13, 23% to the economic growth.

INCOME PER CAPITA

Meanwhile, the regional per capita income based on constant price in 2001 recorded as much as 1.115 million rupiah.

EXPORT-IMPORT

In 2001, the export value of Lampung decreased to US$ 388,752,127 from US$ 681,329,678 in 2000. The biggest export destinations were Taiwan, followed by Korea and Spain. Whilst, the import value was also having similar experience, even higher decrease 43.45%, from US$ 1,071,544,299 in 2000 became US$ 892,025,892 in 2001.

MINIMUM WAGE RATES

In 2001, the regional wage rate (UMR) of Lampung was Rp. 310,000 per month. The minimum living cost of labour (KHM) in 2001 was Rp. 325,000 per month (cumulative).

^ Natural Resources

AGRICULTURE/FARMING

In 2001, the total land area of paddy rice field reached 501,118 ha with 1,992,689 tons production, while the food crops area such as corn, cassava, sweet potato, peanut, soybean, and green bean covers 679,000 ha, with total production of 4,128,163 tons. The assorted fruit land area which consists of avocado, mango, rambutan, yellow fruit, oranges, durian, guava, sapodillas, pepaya, banana, pineapple, and stone fruit covers 16,506 ha with 333,892 ton production, and vegetable crops land has 27,841 ha with production of 118,344 ton.

PLANTATION

The plantation areas that comprise of Arabic coffee, Robusta coffee, pepper, clove, rubber, sugarcane, nata de coco, hybrid coconut and cacao, have 666,758 ha, with 824,901 tons production.

FISHERIES

Besides marine products, there are plenty of fishery products, such as 3,411 ha fishpond, 3,093 ha rice field, 18,661 ha hatchery, 924 ha cage, and from the rivers, small rivers, swamps, etc, with 40,990 ton production. Marine fishery provides 151,579.9 ton of fish.

LIVESTOCK

Livestock population in this province comprises of cow, buffalo, goat, sheep, pig, chicken, poultry and rooster.

FORESTRY

The Lampung forest area by its functional role, consists of 336,100 ha protection and tourism forest 294,050 ha, conservation forest 33,335.4 ha, limited production forest 281,029 ha permanent production forest. The other primary forest products other than log and timber are 19,079 tons wood bricket, 2,234 tons resin, and 0.012 tons rattan.

MINING

Lampung has various mineral and mining resources such as crude oil, uranium, coal, iron ore, gold and silver, marble, hot spring water and gas.

TOURISM

The potential of tourism resources is based on natural park and resorts such as national park with diversified flower and animals, training centre of wild elephant, rhinoceros cultivation, way kanan resort, Park Forest, islands, sulphuric hot water springs, waterfalls and beaches. Water tourism like beringin Indah Lake, reservoirs and dam, lakes, and leisure parks. Cultural tourism such as caves, traditional houses, performing arts, historical park, monasteries and ancient/kingdom cemeteries
