Although DKI Jakarta is not such an agricultural economy, but this sector is easily found within this Metropolitan area, with its agricultural land area is 17%.

The total area of rice fields reached 2.777,4 ha and the land area is 8,419.9 ha. The 2002 paddy production was 25.4 thousand ton and 1.6 thousand ton cassava tree. The export commodity of cut flowers (orchids) is among the superior product. Its production reached 6.7 million pieces from 2.5 million trees.

The most outstanding species of orchids is Dendrobium, as many as 1.1 million pieces, followed by Aranthera 0.3 million and Vandal/Douglas 0.2 million piece. The fresh fish commodity export was recorded as much as US$ 86.5 million, while frozen fish/shrimp/lobster was US$ 69.3 million and dried fish was US$ 3.8 million. Of this export commodities, tuna fish ranked the highest, with 14.2 thousand ton or 52.5% of the total export, followed by shrimp, 2.7 thousand ton or 10%.

The export destination is Japan market, about 28.43% (7.7 thousand ton), USA and Singapore markets as many as 6.1 thousand ton and 4.9 thousand ton respectively Even though the land area for livestock is very limited, traditional farmers have been sustaining their business. Milk cows (with 4,054 units) located its area of 64.9 ha at South Jakarta (43.9 ha), East Jakarta (19.1 ha) and the remaining is on West Java.

The cattle farmers recorded are 67 farmers. Of this milk cows, the number of cows that produce lactasien is 1,505 units and those that produce milk are about 2.3 million litre. The poultry livestock like buras chicken reached 175.8 thousand population and holland chicken is 149.5 thousand unit as many as 192.2 thousand unit. The total area of poultry business locates at 55.7 ha.

The monthly average production of chicken meat is 149.5 thousand units. Due to the increasing demand of meat, make the local production (28.3 thousand ton) unable to meet the demand, and the city still imports from overseas as many as 17.5 thousand ton.

The Province is geographically located on 6012' South Latitude and 106048'- East Longitude.

The government administration is set into 5 regions South Jakarta, Central Jakarta, East Jakarta, West Jakarta, North Jakarta and 1 regency/ administrative city, namely Thousand Island regency. The largest cities is East Jakarta (187.73 sq km) and the smallest is Thousand Island regency (11.81 sq km).

The average rainfall is 1,916.8- 924.50 mm/year.

GROSS REGIONAL DOMESTIC PRODUCTS

In 2001, GRDP of DKI Jakarta based on current price reached Rp. 219.86 trillion. The contributed sectors that accounted 2001 GRDP were transportation & communication (24.66%), services (17.08%), trade, restaurant and hotel (16.86%).

ECONOMIC GROWTH

The economy of DKI Jakarta in 2001 grew 3.64%, but it was lower than that of in 2000 (4.33%).

INCOME PER CAPITA

In 2001, GRDP per capita based on current price increased 16.25% compared with the previous year, to Rp. 26.2 million from Rp. 22.5 million.

EXPORT-IMPORT

Until November 2002, the export value is recorded US$ 18,565.94 million, 0.11% slightly higher, if it is compared with the previous year, recording US$ 18,545.76 million. The 2002 export product (until November 2002) reached US$ 5,080.62 million, a decrease of 1.76% if it compared with the same period of 2001 (US$ 5,171.57). The primary export markets of DKI Jakarta's commodities are among others Asia, America and Europe. The import value during the period of January-November 2002 was recorded as much as US$ 14,598.07 million, decreasing 2.56% from the previous year. The consumer and capital goods have been increasing 15.17% and 2.10% respectively.

MINIMUM WAGE RATES

The 2002 minimum regional wage (UMR) figured as much as Rp. 591,266 monthly.

AGRICULTURE

In 2001, the land area for agriculture remained 17% of the total area. The rice field land remained 2,777.4 ha of the 8,419.9 ha area. FORESTRY

In 2001 the protection forest and natural conservation was 414.02 ha, consist of 44.76 ha protection forest, 99.82 ha tourism forest, 25.02 ha wild animal conservation park, 63 ha natural park, 21.02 ha cultivation plant area, 37.91 ha and 108 ha sea marine. In addition, a 219,30 ha city park.
