CYCLISTS FROM 15 COUNTRIES COMPETE AT TOUR DE SINGKARAK

Cycling teams from 15 countries are competing at 'Tour de Singkarak' in West Sumatra this week, Antara news agency reported on Wednesday.
The foreign teams competing at the tour include those from Malaysia, the Philippines, China, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Iran and Qatar. They are vying for a total cash prize of US$60,000.
The race, which begins Wednesday and runs through Saturday, covers a distance of around 450 kilometers, divided into four segments, i.e. Padang-Bukittinggi (92.3 km), Bukittinggi-Sawahlunto (85.1 km), Sawahlunto-Danau Singkarak (90.2 km) and Lake Singkarak-lake Kembar - Lake Singkarak (188 km).
The West Sumatra Police said they would deploy a total of 1,500 security personnel to safeguard the race.
The international event aims to promote tourism in West Sumatra, especially the 11,200-hectare Lake Singkarak, the second largest lake in Sumatra after Lake Toba.
The West Sumatra administration spices up the cycling race with a music concert, a food festival, and a fun bike event.
