INDONESIA PARTICIPATES IN THE ROYAL FLORA RATCHAPHRUEK 2006,
1 NOVEMBER 2006 - 31 JANUARY 2007
Indonesia has confirmed its participation in the first international horticultural expo in Southeast Asia, which will take place in Chiang Mai, Thailand, for 3 (three) months from 1 November 2006 to 31 January 2007. The expo is being held as part of the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s accession to the throne and his 80th birthday anniversary, and will be officially opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindorn on 1 November 2006. Besides Indonesia, another 32 countries, 51 Thai provinces, and 22 organizations are also taking part in the expo.
The participation of Indonesia in the Royal Flora is aimed to promote trade, investment, tourism and culture of Indonesia with a view to boosting Indonesia’s image in the world, enhancing bilateral relations between Indonesia and Thailand, increasing export values, and attracting foreign investors and international tourists to Indonesia. In this regard, the Minister of Agriculture, H.E. Mr. Anton Apriyono, accompanied by the Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand, H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Yusuf, will officially open the Indonesian Pavilion on 2 November 2006.
The official theme of the Indonesian pavilion is “The Beauty of Flora in Diversity”. It consists of garden, three Indonesia traditional houses of West Sumatra, Betawi (Jakarta), and Central Java, and a miniature of National Monument of Jakarta. It covers 1,500 m2 of land and takes almost one year to build it. The garden comprises Indonesian original plants and flowers such as palm and soka.
In order to make the pavilion livelier, the Indonesian Embassy will organize cultural performances during the expo. Some cultural troupes from East Java, Jakarta, and the Indonesian Embassy have been scheduled to present their performances especially of Indonesian traditional dances and songs. As part of Indonesia’s participation in the Royal expo, there will also be a Joint Agriculture Working Group (JAWG) conducted on 3 November 2006. The JAWG will consist of high ranking officials from both Ministry of Agriculture in which will discuss a wide range of issues related to agriculture cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand.
